Olivia d’Aboville is a French-Filipino artist who graduated with honors from ESAA Duperré in Paris in 2009. In her work, she explores the relationship between the organic and the synthetic in both aesthetic expression and in her choice of materials. Her artistic vision is rooted in her rigorous and unconventional approach to textile techniques and her commitment to using natural fibres from the Philippines such as abaca and silk, or recycled/up-cycled materials to address concerns about the environment. Since 2015, she has been using handwoven Philippine textiles in her works. Her signature materials are the shibori silk handwoven and hand dyed in Palawan by Rurungan Sa Tubod Foundation and handwoven abaca from Cebu Interlace. She refers to her artworks as textile art or textile paintings. Hotels such as the Hilton Manila, the Sheraton Manila, Conrad Hotel, Admiral Hotel and Dusit Davao have commissioned her works.
D’Aboville has exhibited in group shows in Paris (Museum of Modern Art), New York (Lincoln Center), Lyon (Museum of Textiles and Decorative Arts), Hong Kong (Polytechnic University), Singapore (Marina Bay and Art Stage) and solo shows in Manila (Ayala Museum, Altro Mondo Arte Contemporanea, Artinformal, Art Anton, Galerie Anna, Art Elaan). Since 2015, her installation Giant Dandelions, large flower lights made out of 9,000 recycled water bottles tours Light Festivals in Europe.
Her works range from textile jewelry, to sculptures, to lighting designs and installation art.
